Procedure

First take some soil sample passing through number 40 (0.425 mm) sieve and mix the soil well with adding some water. take a cylinder and fill it with soil mixture. take the empty cylinder and filled cylinder weights. after that place the cylinder in the oven (105 degrees of Celsius). Take the weight of the cylinder again.

Calculations

Weight of the empty container = m1
Weight of the empty container + Soil = m2
Weight of the soil = ms

ms = m2-m1

Moisture content (w%) = ( Msw - Msd) x 100% / Msd
